Fran appears at a public hearing with Electoral Matters Committee
VfC recently contributed to a joint submission into the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into Voting Centre Accessibility, alongside Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service, Human Rights Law Centre and Centre for Innovative Justice.
As a result, the authors were asked to appear at a public hearing with the Electoral Matters Committee at Parliament. Fran was a key lived-experience voice in the submission, and appeared at the public hearing to share her experiences.

People with disability are significantly over-represented in the growing Victorian prison population and face steep barriers to voting. Ahead of the Victorian state election due later this year, this submission brings together VALS, CIJ’s, HRLC and VFC’s perspectives of the criminal legal system, human rights laws and frameworks, and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to present recommendations that will strengthen access to voting for people with disability in prison, and all people in prison.
