Safe story-telling at Reinforce

We have just finished a workshop with REINFORCE about safe story-telling.

Reinforce is a self-advocacy group whose members design and deliver training in how to be a great self-advocate and about the rights of people with intellectual disability. They shared their experience in making presentations at self-advocacy events and how to share your story in a safe way for yourself and your audience.

It was a really helpful workshop. We got a lot of good tips:

  • Decide what you want to say

  • Practise many times

  • Make sure you have a de-brief afterwards

We are getting ready to host our own self-advocacy event in a couple of months. We will celebrate all the work we have done over the past 3+ years and invite everyone we have worked with over that time. We will also invite our family and friends.

We thank everyone at Reinforce for sharing their knowledge with us today, from Peer Workers Leonie, Eddie and Heather, to coordinators Georgina and Amelia. Keep up the great work you do.
