Talking to the Prison Disability Support Initiative
We have been learning about screening processes in Victoria's prison system for people with Acquired Brain Injury.
Research suggests that anywhere from 40-90% of people across Australia's prison system could have an ABI.
Finding out we had an Acquired Brain Injury changed our lives. We found out what supports were available. We found our community.
We advocate for a standardised screening tool to be developed and rolled out across Victoria's prison system. This was a recommendation from the 2019 Royal Commission into the Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
We are here today with some of the psychologists and social workers from the Prison Disabiiity Support Initiative. They visited us to share what the screening and support services are like in prisons across Victoria.
